Arts & Culture

Where Curiosity Finds a Home

The University Club has always been more than a place to dine. It is a gathering place for ideas, artistry, scholarship, and cultural exchange in the heart of downtown Portland. Here, conversation carries from the table to the lecture room, from the gallery wall to the stage.

Our Arts & Culture programming reflects the intellectual spirit that has shaped the Club since 1898. It is civic-minded and creatively alive. It connects members to the institutions, artists, thinkers, and stories that continue to define our region.

Arts & Education Partnerships

Through our Arts & Education Membership program, the Club partners with leading cultural, academic, and artistic organizations across Portland and the Pacific Northwest. These relationships bring performances, lectures, previews, and behind-the-scenes access directly into Club life.

Our partners enrich our calendar and expand our collective reach. In turn, the Club provides them with a downtown home base to gather, host, and connect with a deeply engaged membership community.

In Residence Programs

Artists. Authors. Musicians. In Conversation With You.

Our In-Residence Programs place working creatives at the center of Club life. Authors share drafts and discuss process. Artists open their studios and curate exhibitions. Musicians perform in intimate settings that invite real connection.

These residencies are not passive appearances. They are ongoing relationships that give members direct access to the creative process and to the people shaping contemporary culture in our region and beyond.

Meet Our Residents

UC Art Collection

Walk the halls of the Club and you are walking through more than a building. You are moving through a carefully stewarded permanent collection that reflects Portland’s artistic legacy and evolving creative voice.

Our collection honors regional artists, historic works, and pieces that tell the story of this institution and the city it calls home. It continues to grow, guided by thoughtful curation and member engagement.

The Library

The Library remains one of the most cherished spaces in the Club. It is quiet when you need focus, conversational when ideas begin to spark. It holds volumes that reflect history, literature, scholarship, and member interests across generations.

It is a room designed for thought. For reading, writing, and discussion. For stepping away from the pace of downtown while remaining at its center.

In many ways, the Library captures the spirit of the Club itself: grounded in tradition, alive with inquiry.
